Anatomy of autonomy

I confess I have never set my foot on Kashmir or have travelled north to Delhi. But I wonder why it has become the most dangerous place in this part of the world. Pakistan may want it for its water resources but what the Kashmir’s want in terms of autonomy? India has a federal political structure where the center is represented by states, besides states are autonomous in terms of their finance, law and order, education, etc. Except defense, foreign affairs, currency, foreign trade and immigration, states have lots of leverage.

Further, which part of Kashmir wants autonomy? I think Jammu and Ladakh do not want autonomy. So valley is the only place where autonomy is desired. Now in area it will be probably much smaller than Nepal almost Silkkim may be. Can such a small patch of land retain its autonomy? I am sure Pakistan is not going to part with an inch of PoK or Gulam Kashmir. Will such state not be taken over by Taliban in no time. Can Delhi afford giving a beach head so close to it?

Are the Kashmiri is demanding autonomy truly representative of population. What about pundits which have been displaced from there. Can the special character of the valley be brought back to pre independence era? So when the state can not stop militants from driving people away leading to an ethnic cleansing. Why people from other parts of country can not settle here ok let them be of Kashmir origin (I can hear BJP clapping with the grin on RSS’s face). I find any idea of autonomy fallacious. Good governance is required through out the country, Kashmir included. Hope some one gives Kashmiris a wake up call.

Independent Pakistan as per the wishes of "people" [or the leaders?]has not found its feet even after 60 years. It may be worse if the "wishes of Kashmiris" is granted. Probably, it will be reduced the raj of opium smugglers and terrorists.

We had enough of this mini independent states around and the headaches created for the rest of the region. So if any body dreams of making some more mess then it is better they come to practical ways.

Independence of Kashmir will never solve the problem. See the example of Pakistan itself, even after so many years of independence, the problems exists. Take the examples of Bangaldesh, Afhanistan, IraQ all these countries have been caught in quagmire of religio fanatic politics led by self serving politicians have wrecked the countries progress to good living standards for its citizens. Many of the democratic insitutions are pushed to sidelines and are being nurtured by the leaders' shortsightedness. If the Kashmir is given freedom, it will hijacked by powerfull clans , other common man will be left to lurch. It is irony, that paksitan wants a parity with india in total contrast to its size with india . If only good sense had prevailed in the minds of pakistani leaders. we will not be spending so much in terms of thousands of crores, which would, otherwise, go onto development.Lastly, whole of Pakistani thinking is India centric which is more created by religious leaders.

Most people in NWF hate Pakistan. Why not make that a separate country? It is now full of Taliban, Al Queda, and terrorists. Pakistan cannot disrupt normal life, and fight war for a long time. How far will US finance the war? Also why does not Pak act as a model country and make POK a separate country? Will China agree to give back part of POK that Pak has gifted them?
