Indian politics & the art of reading tea leaves

I must confess that for me air travel is a luxury and have never traveled business class. Even in train I go by ac 3 tier even when I am entitled to air fare as this is what I can afford or feel worth the money. I am an admirer of Mr Tharoor both as a diplomat and as a human being. I have watched his entry in to politics as a refreshing change despite being surprised.

For it is a different ball game altogether as our ambassador Mr Ronen Sen (of headless chicken fame) or former foreign secretary Mr Menon will tell you. It just takes a raised eye brow to make a mountain out of a mole hill. I do not have much to add on the issue and am not competent enough to advice Mr Tharror who is an icon for me. All I would have done had I have been in his place was to have offered to resign and to apologize which he has already done.

As Prime Minister in his party has called it a joke it appears that he wants Mr Tharror to stay. But as Mr Rahul Gandhi has declined to comment it seems that 10 janpath has taken it very seriously. So perhaps the days of Mr Tharoor as a minister are numbered. Being a firm believer in destiny I can only wish him good luck.

For politics is not suitable for every one as big B discovered. To survive one has to be a hypocrite that is wear khadi but drink scotch out of an aluminum glass as was depicted in the movie Aandhi. One also has to be a chamcha (flatterer) and crawl if asked to bend. Politics is a jungle where every one wants to finger his superior at the same time guarding his back so that some one does not attack him.

This is a game of snake and ladder where every one wants to reach the top by pulling down others. Being an outsider and light weight Mr Tharoor who is only an impressive CV is entirely disposable. I will be sad to see him go. But then politics is not meant for a nice man like him. Good bye Mr Tharror.
Manjilain Aur Bhi Hain Politics Ke Siwa (there is something more and better than politics).

Its good to see the nice appreciation of a gentleman like Shashi Tharoor but the thing is that he must quit the politics if he can not do it.He has earned a lot as diplomat but now he is a politician mean representing the people. He must live like the people if he wishes to represent them otherwise go.It is really sad that our politicians are not playing healthy politics.Politics is some thing to represent and guide the people to form a better government that works for them. Our politicians are playing foul does not mean that politics itself is a foul game.It became dirty because of our dirty politicians. It can be played well if the players are upright. We are, and have to be,in continuous search for the efficient and honest players of our politics, then only we can see our desired goal to be fulfilled. The Prime Minister said that Mr. Tharoor has joked .OK, our people really deserved to be joked upon. That is why they are suffering in the hands of their own representatives.

much has been said about mr tharoor & there is not much to be added
it is no crime to live well so long the same is within one’s means
it is far better to be straight forward then to be a hypocrite
pt nehru was fond of good things of life but gandhiji never objected to his ways despite living himself very simply
so shall we say each to his own
do you realize how many passengers the flight carrying ms gandhi in economy class had or for that matter shatabdi carrying rahul
are these symbolic gestures really relevant?
answer will be your own sir

If he's flying in business class and staying in five stars and at the same time, well looking after the people of his constituency, his job is done.

Plus if he is good in his job, taking care of everything, he is supposed to... that's it. No one would pinpoint him.

But when luxury is the only thing that you want to enjoy as a minister without taking care of responsibilities, then i'm sorry, its better to sit back home.

Mr Tharror must be repenting his tweet. He should have known that everything in India is stretched beyond limit and then forgotten in a second. The stars were not in his favor.
