Good bye Tiger Prabhakaran!
It is politically incorrect to shed tears for a notorious terrorist engineering the assassination of our ex prime minister. I should have no sympathy for someone unleashing violence and heading the most dangerous terror outfit. But can I not be awed by some one who could fight an entire state for 25 long years.
The fight in Sri Lanka is a political one and requires a political solution. Least we try to draw a simile with various Indian militant wings involved in independence struggle or may be Osama, all I can say is to go by the Gandhian philosophy where means are equally important.
By crossing the border line Prabhakaran lost the high moral principles justifying his struggle. There must have been a point when LTTE was having an upper hand making use of the situation and going for a political settlement would have been a fitting tribute to the fallen warrior. Perhaps all or none cooked his goose.
But then any thing can happen in hindsight. All I can say is that a man eater has been put down. Perhaps there was no alternative also. Why the tiger turned in to a man eater is a different story altogether. Indian govt. with pressure from south has failed to take advantage of the situation in its long term interest after the initial misadventures of training LTTE and sending a peace keeping force.
As a result, China and Pakistan our hostile neighbors have managed to gain a toe hold in our back yard. I expect our foreign ministry to get hold of the situation and reestablish its influence over Sri Lanka by behaving in a suitable manner.
Good bye Prabhakaran. Do rest in peace! Hopefully there will be no persecution of Tamils and another Prabhakaran will not be born but if wishes were horses beggars would have rode them. Sri Lanka has a long history of friction between Tamils and Simhalese. Perhaps the final act of the drama will take long time to unfold. Nevertheless, Prabhakaran is dead.
Long live Prabhakaran!
