A ghastly crime like rape born out of a desire to take revenge is nothing but a mind game. Chastity is supposed to be the ultimate & most precious attribute of a lady. By violating some one they try to vandalize the idol in a temple.

Must be a horrible feeling to lie exposed to strangers. Feels like a gutter with a free For all for every one. Blank stare & empty feeling as if nothing more is left in life. Parading some one nude in public left to face a sea of lustful eyes is like a bare bodied person left to get scorched in the mid day sun in the middle of dessert.

It will become next to impossible to see some one eye to eye in the life or whatever is left of that subsequently. Robbing some one of the self respect & dignity can be the ultimate insult to humanity.

The only way this can be countered is not to give the rapist the sadistic pleasure of having the victim feel miserable. Easier said than done. I agree but then recovery from any accident is traumatic. Am accident in which the soul gets amputated is more so.

The ordeal of the victims begins & does not end with the rape as she is supposed to go back to the ghastly moment again & again. One has to narrate the ghastly act before the doctor, police, lawyers, court, media, court, relatives, friends gosh one feels like digging up a hole & hiding for the rest of one’s life.

This fear is the ultimate weapon man has to subdue women. The only way it can be neutralized is by denying him this sadistic pleasure of having vanquished the spirit of the victim. I am sure no rapist can look his victim in the eyes for all his bravado he knows that he has betrayed his maker.

There will be a feeling of shock, trauma, anger, despondency, fear, shame a sea of emotions all together or in succession pass through the mind of the victim. There has to be a burning desire to hit back to prove that the culprit has failed to violate the victim’s spirit.

That the self respect & dignity has remained intact after all. The flame is burning bright once the violent storm has passed. One has to let go of the moment. The virus infested moment has to be quarantined & cleaned for good like a ghost exorcised.

Forgiving the culprit will be a great healer. Please do not get me wrong I am not saying that he should not be punished but one can kill with compassion & kindness.

The fight for justice should not be for the restoration of individual honor but for the dignity of womanhood as a whole. We know non violence was close to the heart of Mahatma Gandhi but even he did not hesitated for a second for a severe punishment including death for the culprit of such ghastly crime.

I am not a psychologist nor will I venture in the unknown domain involving such delicate emotions but I do believe that like the survival after any other accident there is a normal life after rape also may be limping but normal nevertheless.
