The lazy Indian

To day on 1st may I was waiting for a bus for quite some time & eventually had to take an auto. On asking the driver why buses were not plying, he rolled his eyes in a silent ridicule & told in a patronizing manner do not you know to day is may day.

On my asking then why he was plying his vehicle it was his turn to look sheepish. To rub in I quipped is may day important only when it is a paid holiday? His cheeks turned red I have never seen even young girls blushing so much while discussing their pregnancy or periods.

He must be a decent soul. On reaching office I found most of the adjoining offices closed. Despite of this we are going to have another holiday very soon in the name of election. That reminds me why we can not have elections on a Sunday?

But no, who will miss a paid holiday. After all this is a small sacrifice in the name of democracy. This set me thinking as to why we need so many holidays. I often wonder why we are so lazy. Is it to do some thing with the tropical climate or our fatalistic attitude or simple life style or all included?

I am sure the scenario is same every where but here we can get away with this. In secretariat, staff holds demonstration during working hours & is rarely seen to be beyond their desk working in time. Once crossing over to private sector they become paragon of virtue though it is rare to see such cross over.

India is a land of diversity with many religions, casts & creeds, all having their little festivals. Therefore we have so many great men, real & mythical.

Add to the same some days dedicated to natural calamities & it adds up to a nice number. I wonder whether so many holidays make us efficient or dull.

Going by our productivity, the latter seems to be true. I wonder can we ever become a front line state despite aspiring or b.

The Indians are marching ahead in every walk of life. Is it their laziness that they are capable to compete with the developed nations in many areas? How can you call the Indians lazy?

1st May is the international Labor Day and workers have the right to celebrate it.

“Workers of the world unite”.

sir do we really need so many holidays
who is a worker?
is an auto riksha driver not a worker
just because he does not get a salary cheque but has to inhale the deadly fume 12 hrs a day does it makes him a capitalist
let us give up the habit of goofing off at the slightest of excuse
today the organized workers are not exploited
just think of the workers in psu along with a hefty hike they also get plenty of side money
it is for nothing that they demand & command a hefty dowry
just came across a fraud case in a psu bank where a peon got a loan of rs 3 lac for building a house & rs 10 lac for repairing it i wonder if this house is in air ?or is it in heaven?
just think of the working conditions of labors in china
pl let us take the blinkers off our eyes & be real for a change

It seems you want to discuss the whole system. It is true that workers of unorganized sector are the worse victims of exploitation but condition of people working in public sector is also not very good. In fact May Day should be celebrated in a true sense by organizing the workers against the exploitation.

The writer is very right. Indians are the laziest people, I think. So many holidays in India. How can people do like this and government can allow this?

Indian people are of the same species as people in any country and to get a little relief from any kind of work is natural of all humans ,but the forming of borders and flags make people think they are different
Life is short and if one can and wants to lay down and just look to the sky then good for them

I wonder why workers should work even on workers day when lazy sleepers sleep throught out the year.
its a holiday for all workers of the world .it for people who toil ,it unites workers of the world and it is their to increase the value of work and not to increase laziness.and for ur kind info it is there to celebrate work and recognize workers.first give rice for work and not for free from the workers tax money.

The thing is we are all humans we cant push ourself too much it leads to frustration if the net result is not fruit full.cos out of 100% only 30% are relly working fruitfully.so we should stop and think to increase the percentage to atleast 75% so it will not be a pressure on the 25%.
